Disaster Relief Fund
The impact of disasters on kidney patients is profound. They affect access to dialysis through disruption in transportation, electricity, and the water supply. Lack of transportation can leave dialysis patients immobile and unable to receive lifesaving treatment. The American Kidney Fund (AKF) can assist more patients more effectively and we need your help.
About AKF's Disaster Relief Fund
To date, the American Kidney Fund has provided emergency financial support in communities nationwide during more than twenty life-altering disasters—including over $420,000 in 2024 in response to the Houston storms and Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The Disaster Relief program was also activated in early 2025 in response to the California fires.

How you can help
When you rely on dialysis to stay alive, a natural disaster can be deadly. The American Kidney Fund’s Disaster Relief Program is the nation’s only rapid-response system that provides emergency assistance to help dialysis patients continue their life-sustaining treatments. We rely on generous and compassionate donors to replenish the fund to prepare us for the next disaster. With your partnership, we can ensure that dialysis patients get the treatment, medication, and personal essentials they need during an emergency. Your contribution to the Disaster Relief Fund will allow us to continue accepting grant requests from kidney patients who face even greater risks during disaster situations.
My usual dialysis center closed after the storm hit and I missed dialysis for almost a week. I traveled across the state on icy roads to find an open chair in a clinic — but it was still a shock to my body going that long without treatment. The storm destroyed our water heater, and when you're living on Social Security any unexpected expense is hard. AKF's grant made all the difference and helped me bounce back."
